I’m going to try something new and I’m going to try to do it every day. Which probably means I’ll end up doing it just a couple of times a day if my pattern in the last year or so keeps up. This is my feeble attempt at helping anyone get through these trying times of self-isolation or having to go to work and worry if you’re sentencing yourself to death. I’m going to list and talk about something cool every day. A song, a book, a comic, a tv show; something I found entertaining and maybe something that help you feel a little better. I can’t do much, but I figured I can at least do my small part.
Today I’m going to talk about podcasts. Up until a year or so ago I really had no clue about podcasts. I had heard of them but really did not know what they were. Somehow I stumbled across them and was hooked. So today I’d like to mention a few of my favorites.
Word Balloon hosted by John Siuntres is a podcast about geek culture, mainly comic books. Each episode John talks with the stars and creators of geek culture as he puts it. These aren’t really interviews so much as conversations. Sometimes long conversations. If Brian Michael Bendis or Tom King is on the conversation can be two hours or more. This is one of my favorite podcasts and I love listening to the talks.
Another favorite is Rolling Stone Music Now with host Brian Hiatt. This podcast features interviews as well as news and anything to do with music. A recent interview was with Jason Isbell, one of my favorite musicians. The episodes are usually around 30 to 40 minutes.
Another is Comic Book Historians hosted by Jim Thompson and Alex Grand. As you can gather from the title this podcast talks about comic book history and interviews some of the great creators. Recently they did a three-part interview with Tom DeFalco.
And finally I’ll mention The West Wing Weekly hosted by
Hrishikesh Hirway and Joshua Malina, one of the actors from the show. I talked about this one in my last post, so I won’t say much here, except that it is really good and really funny.
That’s it for today’s segment. There are a lot more cool podcasts. There is probably a podcast for just about any subject you can think of, so if you want to listen to someone talk about something you like, just search. You can download an app from your phone and listen in your car or on your earphones, however, you like.
